Students of BRAC University have joined the quota reform movement by blocking the road in Badda to press their one-point demand of quota reform in government jobs.
A less commendable's thoughts on merit
Students across the country have initiated a movement called "Bangla Blockade," demanding the abolition of the quota system in government jobs. The "Bangla Blockade" involves sit-ins that aim to paralyze Bangladesh. They have been organizing protests and human chains since 2018, leading the Awami League government to issue a notification abolishing the quota system for first and second-class government jobs. In 2021, several children of freedom fighters challenged the government's decision to abolish the freedom fighter quota in the High Court. On June 5 of this year, the court declared the abolition of the reserved quota for freedom fighters illegal. The quota system was initially implemented by the Awami League government, and it was the same government that later abolished it.
CoU students protest, demand proctor's resignation
Students of Comilla University were attacked by the police while blocking the Dhaka-Chattogram highway for the fifth day as part of the 'Bangla Blockade' program, which demands the removal of discriminatory quotas in all job grades and competitive examinations. In response, the students protested to demand justice for the attack and called for the resignation of the proctorial body due to administrative inefficiency.
Chhatra League urges students to return to class
Saddam Hussain, President of BCL central committee, emphasized the necessity of considering the court’s observations. “Seeking orders from the executive department alone is not wise. Good decisions take time. Mob justice cannot be commendable,” Hussain said.
DMP warns of legal action over road blockades
Kh Mahid Uddin, Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations), said, "They have been on the streets for the past 10 days. We have taken their issues into consideration. However, if they disregard our appeal now, it will constitute a crime."
'Bangla Blockade to continue'
The agitating students who have been protesting against the quota system in government jobs will continue their "Bangla Blockade" programme from 3:30pm on Thursday.

Addressing the demonstrators, he said: "Go back to your classrooms obeying the directives of the apex court."
SC issues status quo on HC judgement over quota system
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has issued a status quo on the High Court's judgment to reinstate the freedom fighter quota system for first and second-class government jobs.
Morning-evening total blockade across country on Wednesday
The protesting students have declared a nationwide blockade, set to take place from morning to evening, to demand the cancellation of the quota system. They have urged students across the country to participate in the 'Bangla Blockade' by obstructing key roadways, sea routes, and railways starting at 10.00 am on Wednesday (July 10).
