Where is the telecom industry heading: Who will control it?

The statistics grab headlines effortlessly: “Mobile internet subscriber base declines by 4.4 million.” As the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) regularly publishes data on mobile telecommunications and broadband subscribers, journalists have easy access to these numbers. By comparing data month over month, crafting a market report becomes straightforward. Mobile operators’ officials often provide insights into the business impact of subscriber fluctuations, and at times, analysts react emotionally to the figures without deeper understanding. When such reports make headlines, even the general public, regardless of comprehension, starts worrying about the market’s trajectory.

Interim government can initiate reforms, elected government to execute

One hundred days is not a long time to evaluate the activities of a regular government. For this special type of government, we must be even more flexible. However, after taking office, an evaluation can be made of what responsibilities this government could have fulfilled and what it has actually done in those 100 days. Such an evaluation is needed to make the current government’s role more effective. This government has more opportunities to accomplish things compared to a regular government, because it does not have any political affiliations. If it wishes, it can take various initiatives for the public interest. Since this interim government has come to power through a popular uprising, expectations from it are high. They do not have to worry about elections. If they take the people's aspirations into account, they can accomplish significant work.

Legal reforms are essential to offset banking sector catastrophes

The private research institution, the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD), has highlighted the dire situation of the banking sector in its latest research report. According to the report, over the past 15 years, widespread embezzlement has taken place in the country's banking sector, pushing it into a state of severe risk. Of the 60 banks operating in the country, at least 29 are struggling to function properly for various reasons. Among them, at least 10 banks are on the verge of bankruptcy. What was once a symbol of public trust, the banking sector, has now become a breeding ground for corruption.

Why Kamala Harris lost in US election

Why did Kamala Harris lose in the US election? The answer lies in Donald Trump's first speech following his victory. He declared, "I am not going to start wars; I am going to stop the wars." This statement reflects Trump’s intention not to instigate new conflicts but to end existing ones. Overcoming various criticisms and setbacks, Trump’s opening words after securing his second presidential term have brought renewed hope not only to Americans but to people worldwide. Reasonably, it can be said that Americans, frustrated by Joe Biden's war-expansion policies over the past four years, lost faith in the Democratic candidate. Consequently, Kamala Harris's fate was sealed, and the crown of victory passed to Donald Trump. Biden's flawed policies led to clear Republican victories in the popular vote, Senate, and Congress.
