Stop clashes between students of Dhaka College, City College
Dhaka College and City College—two neighbouring educational institutions in the capital—seem to have a relationship like that of snake and mongoose. Day by day they appear to be turning into “eternal enemies”. Why they clash every now and then is something not only the general public but even the law enforcement agencies reportedly do not know. Yet their clashes continue in succession, which is a matter of concern for the country’s education.
Restore learning environment at Barisal university
Those who have visited Barisal University (BUBT) know that the campus is still quite disorganized. The buildings are scattered, many areas resemble forests, and the entire campus appears somewhat abandoned from a distance. Yet, the university is 14 years old. After the foundation stone was laid in 2011, academic activities began on January 24, 2012. Even more concerning is that the university has always had an unstable environment due to various reasons.
Textbooks in black market: Exposing anarchy in education system
In this country of endless possibilities, only the bad things seem to happen effortlessly. It is often said that if you pay enough, you can even get tiger’s milk in this country. Needless to say, this saying is mostly used in a negative sense. But who would have thought that even textbooks would fall victim to the black market? Up until last year, students in Bangladesh were accustomed to receiving free textbooks on the first day of the academic year. But this time, things are different. Due to political changes, there have been delays in printing the textbooks, leaving uncertainty over when students will actually receive them.
End struggles of private school teachers
Teachers' salaries in Bangladesh are already low. The situation for teachers in private schools is no different. With their monthly salary, teachers barely manage to make ends meet. Many of them give private tuitions or engage in small businesses to supplement their income, as their salaries are insufficient to cover basic expenses. In rural areas, many teachers also work in agriculture. This has been the reality for teachers in Bangladesh for as long as anyone can remember. While the country has made significant progress, the condition of teachers has not improved.
Why people suffer amid the university demand demonstrations?
Currently, there are 53 public universities in the country. Among them, students of seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) have been protesting for the establishment of a full-fledged university, demanding the creation of an independent university. Over the past few weeks, these students have gathered on various roads in Dhaka almost every day, except for weekends and government holidays. This has caused severe traffic jams in those areas and nearby roads, leading to a lot of inconvenience for the public.
