Rehana Akter ( 26), a Bangaldeshi divorcee poor woman of Ibrahimpur village, under Keraniganj subdistrict in Dhaka. She has two minor gilr children. After being divorced by her husband for unable to pay dowry, she found no option to survive. Once her neighbor advised to fly abroad for a lucrative job with high salary.
I was shocked after listening the plights of poor Bazlur Rahman (28) of Manikganj district in Bangladesh. He recently returned home after three weeks from Uganda, an African country. He sold his total land adjacent to his village home and paid Taka one million to a broker / agent of a fake travel agency in Dhaka to be a migrant labor in Italy. But the broker cheated and send him to Uganda in the name of Italy! Bazlur was arrested there by the police and sent back to Bangladesh after 17 days in prison.
Recently I joined an event in Dhaka on advancing a just and gender-responsive renewable energy transition in Bangladesh. Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) organized it. I was enriched learning many issues from the experts and discussants.
VIOLENCE against women and young girls in Bangladesh is a widespread concern for all. A significant number of women are experiencing various forms of violence, including intimate partner violence and sexual violence. In Bangladesh, 70 per cent of the women have experienced at least one form of intimate partner violence in their lifetime.
