Two foreign arms, 233 rounds of bullets recovered in Coast Guard operation in Teknaf
Coast Guard recovered two foreign firearms, magazines and 233 rounds of ammunition during an operation on the Naf river in Teknaf of Cox's Bazar. A wooden boat was seized in the operation conducted from night to morning but no one involved in the arms smuggling could be arrested on Wednesday (August 19).
Woman tied to tree, tortured over chicken theft accusation, video recorded
A woman in her forties in Senbag upazila of Noakhali was tied to a tree and tortured after being accused of chicken theft. The woman filed a case against four people at Senbag police station. Police later conducted a raid and arrested one of the accused.
Commerce Ministry forms committee to probe allegations of irregularities against REHAB
The Ministry of Commerce has formed a two-member committee to investigate various allegations of irregularities against the current board of directors of the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB). Gas supply drops as Excelerate terminal shuts down
The floating LNG terminal (FSRU) of Excelerate Energy at Moheshkhali suspended gas supply around midday due to the absence of an LNG cargo on Wednesday. With the terminal’s stored LNG exhausted, gas is currently being supplied only from the Summit terminal.

A national public opinion survey has found that 66.3 percent of people in the country are satisfied with the performance of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Policy approval for import of 14 LNG cargoes
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given policy approval for the import of 14 cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to maintain normal gas supply in the country. At the same meeting, proposals for the import of urea fertiliser, the purchase of driving simulators for technical training centres and the appointment of consultants for technical assistance at the Ghorashal-Palash urea fertiliser factory were also approved.
SSC exams in 2027 planned for March instead of January
The education division is considering moving away from the earlier plan to hold the 2027 SSC and equivalent examinations from January 7 next year. Discussions are underway to begin the exams in March, taking into account the holy month of Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr and the opinions of examinees and guardians. Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman, chairman of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee and chairman of the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, said the examinations may start in mid-March.
