Venezuela earthquake death toll surpasses 160
The death toll in Venezuela has risen to 164, with approximately 971 people injured, following two powerful earthquakes that struck within about a minute of each other. The country's Acting President, Delcy Rodríguez, provided this updated information, warning that the casualties could rise further as rescue workers continue to clear the rubble on Thursday.

Youth held in Narsingdi for throwing dog into river with brick tied to its neck
Police have arrested a youth named Mohammad Ali , 25, on charges of tying a brick around a dog's neck and throwing it into the river from the Nagriyakandi Bridge in Narsingdi city. He was arrested from the Kamargaon area adjacent to Nagriyakandi at 5pm on Thursday.

3 of same family die by drowning in river in Dinajpur
Dulali Khatun, 23, was scheduled to leave for Dhaka on Friday to join a garment job to stand on her own feet. The bus ticket had also been bought and kept ready. On the previous day, she died by drowning after entering the nearby Mura Kal River to take a bath around 2pm on Thursday. Not only Dulali, but her younger sister Suravi Khatun, 13, and sister-in-law Sumaiya Akter, 19, also died by drowning along with her.
Bangladesh has 1,415 rivers and 22,000 illegal encroachers: Shipping Minister
The total number of rivers in the country is 1415. The number of these rivers has been calculated according to the list prepared with the help of the Shipping Ministry, Water Resources Ministry, National River Protection Commission, Bangladesh Water Development Board, divisional commissioners, district administration and river workers. Tk 12,633 crore exchanged in bribes within service sectors during interim govt's one year: TIB
A total of Tk 12,633.20 crore was exchanged in bribes across various service sectors in the country over a one-year period from November 2024 to October 2025. Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) revealed this data during a presentation of the findings from its survey titled 'Corruption in Service Sectors: National Household Survey 2025' in Dhanmondi, Dhaka on Thursday morning. The organization noted that the survey primarily analyzes the state of corruption during the tenure of the interim government.
7 injured, including schoolboy, as gunmen attack anti-drug human chain participants
An attack and shooting took place in Cumilla city as participants were returning home after attending an anti-terrorism and anti-drug human chain program. At least 7 people, including a student, were injured in the shooting. Several of the injured have been admitted to Cumilla Medical College Hospital. A critically injured schoolboy named Prem has been sent to Dhaka.
